Portrait of Daniel J. Sinnott, President and CEO of Sinnott Executive Consulting

About Dan

Daniel J. Sinnott, CEO

“I know that the CEO’s office can be a lonely place, where it is hard to get honest, constructive feedback. I help leaders ensure that important decisions are not made in a vacuum, and that the impact on the ‘triple bottom line’ is properly considered.”

Dan has more than 40 years of leadership experience and a values-based leadership style. He has led organizations through significant cultural change, with gains in quality, financial and satisfaction results. Five colleagues he coached went on to become hospital CEOs.

His skills are strategic, financial and operational, in both traditional and matrix organizations — single hospitals, academic medical centers and multi-hospital systems.

Firm history & career

He launched the firm in 2006 to develop strong, ethical leaders.

The model develops both leadership and business skills. Dan works with profit and nonprofit executives, with special emphasis on first-time executives.

A Proven Model

Executive coaching plus business consulting

Customized to the individual and the organization, the model covers three kinds of leadership skill alongside the operational skills a leader is measured on.

Technical

The triple bottom line of strategy, quality and finance.

Relational

Change management, communication and team building.

Character

Integrity, authenticity and self-discipline.

Operational

Managing operational risk, improving business processes and maximizing the benefits of technology.

What makes the model unique

  • It builds on strengths while minimizing weaknesses. Continuous skill development matters, because the skills that got someone the role are not the only ones needed in it.
  • Executive experience. More than 30 years in senior healthcare leadership, nine of them as a CEO, including relationships with the Corporate Office, Board, medical staff, managers and community.
  • Range of settings. Community hospitals, academic medical centers and a national system — and five people mentored into hospital CEO roles.

Our Methodology

A four-phase engagement, each phase tracked with a scorecard

The phases create short-term results and long-term sustainability, and every one is measured.

1

Organization & Leadership Assessment

  • Analysis of three years of strategic, quality and financial results, plus a two-year projection, to identify gaps.
  • Interviews with the leader and key team members.
  • Multiple assessment tools, and the leader’s personal priorities.
2

Skill Building & Balance

  • Alignment of vision, mission, values and strategy.
  • Guidance on leadership style, change leadership, communication and senior team productivity.
  • Balance among four elements of the leader’s life: professional, personal, physical and spiritual.
3

Implementation

  • Support in translating strategy into action.
  • Integrating new systems, structures and measures to change culture.
  • Improving triple-bottom-line performance.
4

Final Assessment

  • Results tracked against the strategic plan, customer and employee satisfaction, and quality and financial goals.
  • A second leadership skills assessment.
  • Where it helps, a follow-on engagement.
