Onboarding
Strong résumés still fail to integrate. We give the new executive an unbiased outside resource with credibility, time commitment, confidentiality and complete focus, across the full annual business cycle.
OnboardingStriving to be a CEO?
Being a CEO can be exciting and invigorating, and many CEOs thrive. Yet up to 40% of executives fail within 18 months of starting a new role. Our specific niche is the first-time CEO facing an organizational turnaround.
The next chapter
We offer the unique combination of coaching the individual and also consulting on the needs of the organization.
That combination produces results: it improves leadership effectiveness, and it improves the financial, cultural and quality results of the organization. Dan Sinnott started the firm in 2006 to develop strong, ethical leaders, and the model develops leadership skills and business skills together.
Our Clients
Five engagements, each built around the leader in the role and the organization around them.
Strong résumés still fail to integrate. We give the new executive an unbiased outside resource with credibility, time commitment, confidentiality and complete focus, across the full annual business cycle.
OnboardingA tailored, time-sensitive plan delivered one-on-one over months. The skills that got you the job may not be the skills that keep you the job.
Skill EnhancementEvery leader should prepare at least two potential successors. We plan for the competencies needed in three to five years, not the current job description.
SuccessionPrograms from “College of Hard Knocks” to “We Are Who We Hire,” delivered on campus or retreat style. More than 90% of participants rate the instructors excellent.
Educational & TrainingMeasure twice, cut once. An experienced CEO who is not personally involved reviews your proposed plans, strategic changes or past decisions.
Second OpinionDan speaks across the United States, facilitates leadership retreats and runs CEO roundtables, from board orientation to leading an organizational turnaround.
Speaking TopicsWhy Choose Us?
Our proven model is customized to the individual and the organization, and it covers three kinds of leadership skill alongside the operational skills a CEO is judged on.
Our Process
A typical engagement has four phases that create short-term results and long-term sustainability. Each phase is tracked with a metrics-driven scorecard.
Analysis of three years of strategic, quality and financial results plus a two-year projection to identify gaps, with interviews of the leader and key team members.
Alignment of vision, mission, values and strategy, with guidance on leadership style, change leadership, communication and senior team productivity.
Support in translating strategy into action, and integrating new systems, structures and measures that change culture and improve triple-bottom-line performance.
Results are tracked against the strategic plan, customer and employee satisfaction, and quality and financial goals, with a second leadership skills assessment.
Client Testimonials

“Dan coached me as a first-time college president, and filled the gaps I did not know I had.”
Finding The Right Fit
Sinnott Executive Consulting prides itself on providing the right fit. Our clients tend to share five traits.
Dan’s Latest Books
A business fable. Abbey Short, a young divorced professional, meets 96-year-old Grace Tucker in the assisted living facility where Abbey’s father, John Short, lives. Grace was a top salesperson at Bethlehem Steel. The eight sales steps are product knowledge, prospecting, preparation, approach, presentation, handling objections, closing and follow-through.
Dan read more than 25 sales books while learning to sell his firm’s services. The theme running underneath: assisted living and nursing homes hold great talent and experience.
8 Challenging Guidelines for Achieving Business & Career Success. Finally, a commencement speech worth remembering — drawn from 30+ years of business experience, for seasoned executives and recent graduates alike.
Ensuring the Future of Your Business and Career Through Succession Planning. A fable covering “The Curse of the Gift,” “Never Compromise Your Values,” the Leadership Equation and “Gold is in the Blind Spots.”
Frequently asked
We provide both executive coaching AND business consulting services. Most firms coach the individual only. Dan Sinnott brings more than 30 years of senior healthcare leadership, nine of them as a CEO, so the coaching is grounded in the same decisions the client is facing.
Our specific niche is the first-time CEO facing an organizational turnaround. Clients hold an ambitious vision, treat leadership skill as a competitive advantage, feel urgency about performance, and are willing to have tough conversations and hear unvarnished feedback.
A typical engagement runs in four phases: Organization and Leadership Assessment, Skill Building and Balance, Implementation, and Final Assessment. Each phase is tracked with a metrics-driven scorecard that creates short-term results and long-term sustainability.
Up to 40% of executives fail or quit within 18 months of starting a new role. A failed onboarding costs productivity, damages relationships and forces a repeat hire, estimated at 8 to 12 times annual salary.
Most clients are in healthcare, from single hospitals to academic medical centers and multi-hospital systems. We also work in construction, education, banking, insurance, consulting, pharmaceuticals, accounting, community agencies and start-ups.
Our Blog
In the early 1980s Dan was an Assistant VP at Misericordia Hospital in West Philadelphia. The system CFO, Jim Schleif, taught the team healthcare finance every Tuesday morning: “You have to know your numbers,” and “the numbers tell a story.”
